Question by trater04: Microsoft Visual Web Developer – Is It a Good Language to use for Beginning to Program?
I am interested in developing web applications. I know the visual web developer can be downloaded from Microsoft. I know a little visual basic. Is this a good language and software to get started with. Is there something better. How long would you think it would take a beginner developer to learn the language and build fairly sophisticated applications.

VWD isn’t a language, it’s a program. Microsoft web development is done mostly in ASP or ASPX – not a good choice, since you can only use what you develop on a Microsoft server (and they’re in the minority). Use Javascript for client-side code and PHP for server-side code.
How long? That depends on how good a programmer you are. (Programming and a programming language are totally different things. If you don’t know programming, figure on 6 months to become a beginner. Use http://www-old.oberon.ethz.ch/WirthPubl/AD.pdf to learn.)
If you’re a good programmer, Javascript could take a couple of months to get good at. PHP is easier.
